Shanks clearly has some complicated feelings regarding his birth family. If it was a simple and complete rejection, he would have cut his own arm off way before meeting luffy. Apparently meeting luffy was more meaningful to him that he let on. I think it is interesting that imu has to pay a price to make god knights. Makes me wonder if he has like a limited well of power and when he killed saturn he took that power back, but with harald actually dying it just means that the power was lost.
It makes the fact that rocks had three god's knights at the brink of death and didn't finish them off seem like quite the missed opportunity. Who knows, if he had killed them perhaps imu wouldn't have even been strong enough to manifest and fight him. Funny how rocks was strong enough to get close enough to imu but didn't have the knowledge to harm him. And even then he was closer to figuring out than he realized. Maybe he couldn't do it. After all, harald kept regenerating until ragnir itself had to be used by loki. So maybe ragnir has a special power to overcome imu's pact. After all, imu was shocked that someone managed to kill harald and didn't send another knight to die.
