Luffy once he heard loki mention shanks. That's perfect hahaha thanks for making me genuinely laugh. Think its the perfect gif resuming the situation. Also ace was mentioned and the giants reinforcing the world government was the real enemy all along. Of course luffy knew this since ennies lobby but current luffy is able to grasp more the scale of the worst things he encountered in his life almost always had something to do with the world government.
It’s like when rayleigh was talking about roger in the bar. Luffy was locked in and stopped eating to listen. Luffy does pay attention to lore dumps (skypiea, wano), it's just that he decided not to listen to nami's backstory because he didn't need to hear the details he already knew her real nature. Same logic, luffy already knew enough about jimbei and did not need to learn more. Jimbei's backstory was purely for nami's sake so she understands that jimbei is not responsible for arlong and from a narrative perspective it was for us (the readers) to know more about jimbei since he would eventually join. Its oda's mastercraft in writing at play once again.
