It’s interesting that oda’s trying to show that garling and shamrock did truly love and care for shanks once, when garling literally killed the mother of their kids in cold blood. This was genuinely my favorite panel of the entire chapter. I just love that little fucking idiot so much. Goku just wants people to be the strongest in the universe so he can fight them, luffy just wants his friends to reach their full potential. Goku is not evil but his hunger for power did risk planets and even universes. He never had introspection on it either.
Luffy is definitely a much more morally good guy in comparison. I interpreted that as oda explicitly reminding us that the narrator flashback wasn't part of loki's tale. It also indicates that gaban will probably explain to the strawhats what shanks told him about the covenants, just not right now because it would take too long. But gaban was talking about stuff harald did as a god knight. We've seen basically none of that. He attacked ships in the mist and that's it. If that's all gaban had, he could have said that one sentence. Gaban would've had the details of the covenant from shanks, as well as the rest of their interactions in the holy land. Additionally harald's interactions with the world government we've seen in the flashback in general, not just the final deal.
